In 2024, 7,131 gonorrhea cases (124.7 per 100,000 population) were reported. This was an 8% decrease compared to 2023 (Table 3). Adolescents and young adults are at greatest risk for gonorrhea, with rates of 248 per 100,000 among 15-to-19- year-olds, 419 per 100,000 among 20-to-24-year-olds, and 339 per 100,000 among 25-to-29-year-olds. Gonorrhea rates for males (148 per 100,000) were higher than females (101 per 100,000).
Communities of color were disproportionately affected by gonorrhea. The incidence of gonorrhea among Black, non-Hispanics (705 per 100,000) was 14.9 times higher than the rate among white, non-Hispanics (47 per 100,000). Rates among Asian/Pacific Islanders (67 per 100,000), Hispanic, any race (181 per 100,000), and American Indian/Alaska Natives (532 per 100,000) were up to 11 times higher than among white, non-Hispanic persons. Gonorrhea rates were highest in the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The incidence in Minneapolis (620 per 100,000) was over 1.6 times higher than the rate in St. Paul (378 per 100,000), more than 6.9 times higher than the rate in the remaining Twin Cities metropolitan area (89 per 100,000), and more than 13 times higher than the rate in Greater Minnesota (46 per 100,000).
