Interpret a MIIC Record

The Minnesota Immunization Information Connection (MIIC) offers a view of a client’s immunization history as well as recommended immunizations based on current national guidelines. This page helps MIIC users interpret the information displayed in a client’s MIIC immunization record.

There are three sections within the record displayed in MIIC:

1. Client information: Provides information about the client, including client comments such as documented immunity.
2. History: Provides a list of all immunizations the client has received, as reported to MIIC.
3. Vaccines recommended: Provides vaccine recommendations based on the client’s age and immunization history.

Comments

If there are client comments on record, such as immunity or medical exemption, these will be displayed in the comments section. Only one comment is displayed at a time. Use the scroll bar arrows to view more.

History

Each immunization a client has received (and that has been reported to MIIC) is displayed alphabetically by vaccine group. Information displayed includes:

• Vaccine Group: Vaccines that protect against the same disease are categorized into vaccine groups. An immunization is listed in one row per vaccine group. Combination vaccines appear once in each relevant vaccine group.
• Date Administered: The date the immunization was administered to the client. Select the date to view forecasting information for that vaccine group/series.
• Series: For valid immunizations, displays the dose count within a vaccine series or indicates the dose is a booster. States “NOT VALID” if an immunization is not valid because it was administered off schedule and should be repeated. If there is no value, the dose is either invalid, or the series is no longer recommended.
• Vaccine [Trade Name]: The name of the vaccine administered, along with the trade name, if reported to MIIC.
• Owned?: Every immunization reported to MIIC is owned by the provider organization that reports it to MIIC. This column displays nothing if you are logged into MIIC under the organization that reported the immunization to MIIC. This column displays “No” if you are not logged into MIIC under the organization that reported the immunization to MIIC. Click “No” to view which organization reported the immunization to MIIC.
• Hist?: If an immunization is reported as historical, this column displays “Yes.” If an immunization is reported as administered, this column is blank. 
• Edit: Click the icon in this column to view additional details, edit, and/or delete the immunization. Additional details include lot number and expiration date.

Vaccines recommended

This section forecasts routine immunizations needed based on the client’s current age and immunization history in MIIC. When a series is not yet complete, this section lists the earliest, recommended, overdue, and latest dates for the next dose of the series. The highlighted date indicates which category/status the client is in if they were to receive the immunization today.

Labels may be listed next to the vaccine group:

• Complete: The client has received the recommended vaccines for that series.
• Maximum Age Exceeded: The client has not completed a series and is no longer age-eligible to complete the series.
• Immune: There is a client comment on record that the client has sufficient immunity and does not need further immunizations.
• Medical Exemption: There is a client comment on record that the client should not receive an immunization in this vaccine group for medical reasons.
• Refused: There is a client comment on record that they or their parent/guardian has refused an immunization.
• Maximum Doses Met or Exceeded for Vaccine Group: Client has received the maximum number of doses that can be received for this vaccine group.
