Video Transcript:

During a home walkthrough, you will also need to inspect the lowest level of the home, the basement or utility rooms.

Whether this area is finished or unfinished, you are primarily looking for signs of water damage, mold and pests.

In the basement area you need to check:

  • If the lower level has carpeting, take a good look at the condition of the carpeting.
  • Check for moisture or dampness in the carpeting or on the concrete floor.
  • Look for signs of mold in the carpet or on any of the textiles.
  • Check the condition of the dehumidifier, if one is being used.
  • Check the foundation and around the plumbing for any holes.
  • Look to see if any consumer products such as air fresheners are being used to mask musty odors.
