Video Transcript:
Offer these action steps to help reduce asthma triggers in the living room and family room:
- The rooms should be vacuumed and damp dusted regularly.
- If you suspect dust mites might be a problem, pillows and fabric curtains should be washed in hot water.
- Upholstered furniture should be vacuumed regularly.
- If family members have pet allergies, pets should be kept off upholstered furniture.
- Food should not be left in the room.
- Dishes should be washed promptly after use to discourage pests.
- Fix areas showing signs of moisture such as damp carpeting, water damage, and standing water in plant trays or air conditioner drip pans.
- Cockroaches often hide behind wall hangings, so check behind pictures for evidence of cockroaches and fix loose wallpaper. Walls should be kept clean and wallpaper sealed around the edges.
- Remove any unnecessary consumer products such as plug-in air fresheners, candles, or incense that may be releasing chemicals or strong odors.
