The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) provided guidance on smoking assessments and interventions, review relevant laws regulating smoking in healthcare environments, and discussed common fire code violations linked to smoking. The webinar also included additional information on fire safety within assisted living settings.

MDH Health Regulation Division (HRD) hosted the Board of Executives for Long-Term Care Services and Supports (BELTSS) on April 19, 2023, to present the most frequently asked questions about Licensed Assisted Living Director (LALD) licensure and practice requirements. BELTSS staff reviewed recent updates to the BELTSS website where resources can be found for LALDs or those interested in becoming LALDs, and HRD spoke to application of Minnesota Statutes, chapter 144G requirements and the LALD role.

The MDH Health Regulation Division and Overdose Prevention Unit invited health care facility providers and stakeholders to learn more about opioid overdose in healthcare facilities.

The MDH Health Regulation Division presented a review of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines for bedrail assessment and safety. The webinar was presented by MDH federal and state regulators who provided the current clinical and regulatory standards to ensure residents or clients utilizing hospital bedrails, consumer portable bedrails or other assistive devices are assessed for appropriateness and safety to avoid serious injury or death.
