2025 Renewals for Body Art Establishments

Body art establishment license renewals will now be completed online through the e-Licensing System. The Minnesota Department of Health is working to transition all our licensing activities to a new electronic licensing system that makes it easier for providers to manage, update, pay, and renew their license information. Only submit a new provisional license application if you are applying for a new body art establishment license.

What happens if I miss the Sept. 30, deadline?

  • Your body art establishment will be out of compliance with Minnesota Statutes, section 146B.02. A person or persons must have a body art establishment license in order to operate a body art establishment where body art is performed (Minnesota Statutes, section 146B.02, subdivision 1 and Minnesota Statutes, section 146B.01, subdivision 4).
  • Applications submitted on or after Sept. 30, will be fined $300 late fee. Applications received on or after Sept. 30, will be considered late and must pay the $300 late fee (Minnesota Statutes, section 146B.10, subdivision 2(b)).

I’m a body art establishment license holder, my license expires Sept. 30. What do I need to do?

  • You should have received emails from health.ba@state.mn.us with instructions about setting up your account. After your account is set up, you will receive the renewal notification in a separate email for your current body art establishment license. This email will be from noreply@opengov.com. Only submit a new provisional license application if you are applying for a new body art establishment license.
