Your home assessment should also include a look at the home’s supplemental heating system.

Many houses use supplemental heating, such as
• fireplaces
• wood-burning stoves, or
• kerosene or gas space heaters.

You are primarily checking that the supplemental system they use is safe, well-maintained and vented properly.

Be sure to ask the family:
• how the home is heated
• and how the system they use is vented.
