In addition to assessing asthma triggers, a home assessment should also address the medical management of asthma.

After obtaining a basic patient history, take a few moments and

• assess the current asthma medications
• determine if the individual has a written asthma action plan and if they understand each step, and
• address any additional asthma-related issues or questions the family may have.

The medical management of asthma is not the focus of this training. So if you would like more information on this aspect of a home visit, please see the Resource Section.
