Video Transcript:
After greeting the family or person with asthma, sit down and talk to them to obtain a basic patient history.
You may already have information on allergies from the individual’s health care provider, but if not, you will want to ask if the individual has been diagnosed with any allergies.
Ask the individual questions to help you characterize what triggers their asthma.
- Find out if their asthma is worse
- during certain times of day, or
- in certain parts of the house.
- Ask if they cough or wheeze
- when someone is smoking
- when pets are around, or
- during certain types of weather conditions such as high humidity or cold temperatures.
