Video Transcript:

Air pollution and pollen are two key outdoor environmental triggers which can aggravate asthma.

When you consider the outdoor environment, remember, while physical activity and exercise are important for a person’s health and well being, if poor air quality aggravates a person’s asthma, it may be necessary to modify activities.

Suggested modifications could include:

  • lowering the intensity level of the outdoor activity, or
  • not going outside during times in the day when pollen or pollution are at their worst levels.

An air quality alert system called the Air Quality Index (or AQI) is an important resource for people with asthma because it provides clear and timely information on local air quality and possible health concerns.

Refer families to where they can learn about air quality alerts specific to their community.

If you would like more information on outdoor environmental asthma triggers or air quality alerts, see the Resource Section.
