Video Transcript:
For a person with asthma, a trigger is a substance, event, or activity that brings on asthma symptoms.
Some asthma triggers that are found inside the home include:
- dust mites
- pests such as cockroaches, mice, and rats
- warm blooded pets such as cats and dogs
- mold
- secondhand smoke, and
- consumer products that release chemicals and strong odors such as:
- plug-in air fresheners
- cleaning products, and
- scented personal hygiene products
Your goal, when performing a home assessment, is to educate and equip asthma patients with the tools they need to effectively manage their asthma and reduce their exposure to these triggers in their home.
