Minnesota Burn Surge
Burn care resources are limited and highly specialized. During a mass casualty incident with large numbers of burn patients, additional resources may be needed to expand the ability to provide burn care stabilization.
To increase specialized burn care in the state, hospitals across the state may serve as a Burn Surge Facility until a bed at an ABA Verified Burn Center either in Minnesota or across state borders is available.
Burn surge educational materials below are intended for health care providers and local, regional and state mass casualty burn surge incident responders.
Burn surge plan
Burn surge facility education and response resources
These materials were developed by the Minnesota State Burn Centers—Hennepin County Medical Center and Regions Hospital—in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Health to be used during a burn surge response. They are recommendations for patients being treated for burns at a Burn Surge Facility and do not constitute medical advice from the Minnesota Department of Health. It is best practice for Burn Surge Facilities to familiarize their staff with these materials prior to an incident occurring.
