Information for Lead Contractors

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is currently working toward the implementation of a Minnesota Lead Renovation, Repair, and Paint (RRP) program. More information can be found at MDH’s RRP rulemaking.

These pages provide information for lead professionals on company certification, individual licensure, and notification.

Lead Licensing has the required licensing and certifications as well as other documents to make sure your job complies with Minnesota's Lead Poisoning Prevention Act and Rules. 

Certified Lead Firm can help those interested in becoming a certified lead firm meet the state requirements.

Individual Lead Licensing assists those who are interested in obtaining individual lead licenses for lead worker, lead supervisor, lead inspector, lead risk assessor, or lead project designer. You can also see if an individual's license is current on this page.

Lead Hazard Reduction Notification provides information to lead professionals on the notification requirements set by MDH. Information regarding what type of work, how to notify MDH and when to notify is discussed.

Training Courses allows you to search for currently offered lead training courses and allows training course providers to notify for training courses electronically and to amend or cancel classes electronically.

Lead Independent Examination is a requirement for individuals who want to be licensed as a lead supervisor, lead inspector, or lead risk assessor. This is an online exam and may be taken after successfully completing the initial training course for lead supervisor, lead inspector, or lead risk assessor.

Accredited Laboratories lists laboratories in Minnesota that may analyze various types of lead samples.

Laws and Rules are the regulations of the State of Minnesota that all contractors should be familiar with and must comply with.

Pre-Renovation Education (PRE) and the Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP) provides a brief overview of what is required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulation.
