Video Transcript:

Be sure you look at...

The roof
Does it show signs of disrepair, which could include sagging, broken shingles, or water stains?

The gutters
Are they attached to down spouts that drain water away from the house?

The sides of house
Is there any discoloration which could be a sign of water damage?

Take note of any broken windows or screens, and any cracks in the doors, walls or foundation which could provide an entry point for pests.

Finally, note where the trash is stored. Trash should be covered and stored away from the house to prevent attracting pests.

If the home has structural problems, some have easy fixes. Others, such as problems with the roof or foundation, may need the expertise of a contractor.

You can find additional recommendations for dealing with structural problems of a home in the Resource Section.
