Hi. My name is Kay, and I am a respiratory therapist, a Certified Asthma Educator, and have been doing home assessments for more than 15 years.
While this program cannot provide all of the information necessary to conduct a home assessment, it will provide a general overview of the process.
My first tip about conducting a home assessment is to use a checklist to document and organize the notes from your visit.
A checklist is a tool to help you provide the family or individual with a comprehensive assessment, and the education and action steps needed to reduce or eliminate asthma triggers in the home.
There are many free checklists available. The Resource Section includes examples of a few, along with additional information to help you prepare for and conduct a home assessment.
The next section of this training will talk briefly about two common asthma triggers in our outdoor environment.
And then the remainder of the training will focus on how to identify common triggers found in the home and recommend action steps to reduce or eliminate each trigger.
So let’s start and talk briefly about two common asthma triggers in our outdoor environment; air pollution and pollen.
