If smoking is allowed in the home, the action step you can recommend is to encourage the household to become smoke-free.
If the smokers are not ready to quit, smoking should be encouraged outside the home to reduce the family’s exposure to secondhand smoke. Even when smoking occurs in an attached garage, the particulates and other contaminants can easily be drawn back into the home.
If the smokers in the household are interested in quitting, refer them to appropriate smoking cessation programs.
